Elementary Cougars Play Hard

The Piedmont Academy Elementary School football battled Brentwood again last week dropping a 28-8 decision in second meeting this season between the schools.

The game was a rematch from earlier this fall when Brentwood took a 46-14.

“We are definitely improving and our defense is playing really well,” said coach Justin Owens. “We just never could get the offense to open up.”

Fourth grader Carson Hammock led the team in rushing and also had a 45-yard score. Fourth graders Mason Owens and Tanner Beam connected on a pass for a two-point conversion.

The defense was led by fifth graders Mark Hicks and Ryan Holder.

Third grader Boone Pope was also praised by the coaches.

“He’s one of our younger, smaller players, but he competed with incredible heart on defense and had a big tackle behind the line of scrimmage,” Owens said.
