Student Wins Contest with 14 Right

Patrick Diaz Presents Prize to Matthew Hollis

Matthew Hollis, a student at Jasper County High School, and a member of the Monticello Hurricane football squad was the only player to correctly guess the winner in as many as 14 of the games listed in last week’s Monticello News football contest.

Four got 13 right, and nine got 12 right, but only Mr. Hollis got 14 right. He only missed on Atlanta’s fall to Minnesota Sunday. His effort gave him a $25 prize from Patrick Diaz with M.D. HVAC, sponsor of the week. Mr. Diaz presented Mr. Hollis with his prize just before school Tuesday morning.

Those lucky enough to correctly guess the winners of 13 of the games listed included Maylon Wages, Ed Hall, Caleb Cobb and Anne Spivey. But, as long as a player gets 12 or more right he or she gets his name added to the grand prize honor roll for the chance of four tickets to the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta on New Year’s eve.

Lots of people play….there’s no age requirement, some are very young, and some have been playing for more than 30 years and have the gray hairs to show for it.

Each week’s contest features a variety of games—high school, college and pro—and on any given week, anybody can win. Whoever wins this week will pick up a $25 prize from Monticello Drugs, sponsor of the week. Contest, and complete rules, are on page 11.

Remember to write legibly and submit your single entry to The News office, 237 West Washington Street, no later than 5 p.m. Friday. Entries may also be faxed to 706-468-6576.
