Wrecks

Two wrecks occurred in Jasper County last Friday afternoon, and officers with the Georgia State Patrol investigated each. In the first one (top photo, right), four cars piled into one another in a chain reaction. In that one, the cars were all traveling south on Hwy. 11. A 2008 Ford Escape driven by Cody Wayne Sparks was stopped on Hwy. 11 waiting for traffic to pass to make a left turn onto C.T. Pope Road. Stopped behind Mr. Sparks was a 2005 Ford Expedition driven by Robert Womack. Stopped next was a 2012 Ford Focus driven by Jean Marie Corbisiero. A 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, driven by Lindsey Wallace was behind them. Ms. Wallace slowed when she saw the stopped vehicles, but was unable to stop before hitting the Ford Focus, which in turn hit the Expedition, in front of it, which hit the Escape. One individual was taken to the hospital for treatment. Later that afternoon, another wreck occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 212 west and Bethel Church Road. In that one, Trey Burgamy of Decatur was driving a 2004 Ford pick-up truck on Bethel Church Road. He stopped at the stop sign, then proceeded to go as he thought the crossing traffic had to stop. He struck a 2006 Honda Accord (bottom photo) driven by Ellis Ammons of Monticello who was traveling east on Hwy. 212. When struck, Mr. Ammons car went into a spin, and struck a 2011 Ford Fusion driven by Amanda Eubanks, also of Monticello, that was traveling west on Hwy. 212. Mr. Ammons’ car came to rest on its top off of Hwy. 212. Mr. Burgamy was charged with failure to yield right of way.
