SALUTE TO VETERANS

The Jasper County Senior Center held a ceremony Monday morning to salute local veterans, and treated them to a large breakfast afterwards.

Senior Center director Arthurene Davis welcomed everyone and introduced Sgt. Maj. Billy Connelly who spoke briefly. Rev. Jimmy Horton offered a prayer, then the crowd sang My Country Tis of Thee. After that, officers with the Jasper County Sheriff’s office gave a 21-gun salute, and Les Steele played Taps.

Guest speaker Walter Cargill of Hillsboro, Sgt. Major Special Force U.S. Army, spoke. Several other observances were also held.
