Authorities Investigate Fire, Death
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and state fire marshal’s office were called in Monday evening to investigate a fire on Oak Street that led to the discovery of a man’s body.
No details were available at press time, but Tommie Jackson is the name of the deceased. His remains have been sent to the state crime lab.
Firefighters were called to a structure fire on Oak Street, and soon after arrival, local law enforcement was dispatched. Fire Chief Jarrett Slocumb, along with the aforenamed authorities, investigated the scene.
The cause of the fire, and the cause of death, are under investigation.
Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded to four reports of burglary in the last week, and in one of them a suspect was immediately arrested. That burglary was off Jackson Lake Road.
Two of the other three were also in the lake area, with a resident on Blue Heron Drive reporting numerous items missing from his residence. In addition, a resident on Jackson Lake Road reported coins missing.
