Deacon Otis Goolsby
A celebration of life for Deacon Otis Goolsby was held Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmy Horton, pastor, officiated. Burial was in South View Cemetery.
Otis Goolsby was born on February 27, 1942 in Monticello. He went home to be with the Lord on December 10, 2104.
He was educated in the Jasper County school system. At an early age, he confessed to Christ and joined Springfield Baptist Church in Monticello.
Otis Goolsby and Johnnie Mae Gantt were united in marriage on September 29, 1961, and to this union two children were born—a son, Otis Darrell Goolsby, and a daughter, Valerie Denise Goolsby.
He was a retiree of Ford Motor Company, an employee of Jasper Memorial Hospital, a deacon of Springfield Baptist Church, a helper and friend to many people, and a dedicated, loyal trusted employee and family friend of Smith and Sons Funeral Home staff and family for 15 years.
Surviving him are a loving wife, Johnnie Mae Goolsby; a son, Otis Darrell Goolsby, Sr. (Zandra) of Conyers; a daughter, Valerie Denise Goolsby of Monticello; a granddaughter, Johnetta Lizzette Goolsby, a grandson, Otis Darrell Goolsby, Jr., of Conyers, and a great-granddaughterPayten Zadora Johnson; a brother, Willie H. Stone (Elizabeth) of Atlanta; sisters, Bennie Mae Powell of McDonough, Rosa Manson of Macon, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
