One Time Player Wins Grand Prize

Grant Land, a physician assistant at Venture Medical Center, sat down one Friday afternoon with the rest of the office and filled out a football contest form.

It was faxed in, along with several others from that office, and lo and behold, he made the honor roll.

Fast forward several weeks. Things got busy, and the avid football fan, being a newcomer to Jasper County and The Monticello News football contest, never got around to playing the contest again.

But, he made the honor roll the one time he played.

Then, Monday, at noon, as publicized, the drawing for the grand prize was held at The News office.

Greg Mitchell, who was working next door, drew the winning name, with office staff and Kasey Hall looking on. He drew out the slip of paper and read the name—Grant Land.

Monday afternoon Mr. Land came uptown and picked up his prize from News editor and publisher, Kathy Mudd. A photo was taken on the porch of the new News office, 247 West Washington Street, the old Tillman House Restaurant.

That’s when he said he was so surprised because he only played that one time.

One family had more than a dozen chances to win…but it shows it only takes one chance, and Mr. Land was the lucky winner. He says he’s not much of a lottery player, but Mrs. Mudd suggested it might be time to try his luck.

Mr. Land received four tickets to the Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve, as well as four passes to the FanFest, and a Chick-Fil-A calendar. He was very excited.

The News thanks all the sponsors and players for a great year!
