New Judge Presides Over Long Court Day

It was a long day in Jasper County Superior Court Tuesday as new Circuit Court Judge Brenda Trammell presided over the motion day calendar action.

The calendar wasn’t unusually long and nearly a fourth of the cases presented were continued but a few of the cases were intricate requiring some extra attention such as the charges against William Rayford Jones.

Mr. Jones was sentenced to eight years in confinement of which he will serve one year with the remainder on probation for guilty pleas to the offenses of sale and possession of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to five years for the sale charge and three for the possession charge and fined $1,500. He was also credited for time served since June 2014 which would bring his remaining confinement time to under four months.

Mr. Jones also pled guilty to crossing the guard line with unauthorized items for which he received six months in jail with time served from September 2014. All his sentences will run concurrently.
