Canes Named All Region

Fourteen Monticello Hurricane High School football players were recently recognized by the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) for their football efforts in Region 4-AA.

Hurricane players named 1st Team All Region were Jordan Stone, running back; Chris Anglin, offensive line; Garrison Williams, defensive line; Quincy Standifer, safety; and Walt McMichael, long snapper.

Hurricane players named second Team All Region were Thomas Deraney, quarterback; Xavier Gude, offensive line; Matthew Lawson, wide receiver; Jay Johnson, defensive back; Bryce Crawford, kicker; and Jordan Stewart, tight end.

Hurricane players named honorable mention for the All Region awards were Glendon Graybill, offensive line; Bryce Crawford, offensive line; Colton Clay, linebacker; and Garrett Scroggs, tight end.

Head football coach Doug Huff expressed great pride in these young men when these awards were announced. He explained that all of the region coaches vote on the awards at the region meeting after he nominated.

“The Hurricanes had a great season and it was a joy to watch them this year,” said Buddy Cain, asst. principal

“We are proud of these young men for earning this recognition. It’s been a while since Monticello has had players named to the All Region teams and we are excited about what the future holds for the Monticello Hurricanes.”
