Monticello Wrestler Heads to State

Jasper County High School sophomore Niall Alhasi is headed to the Macon Colisuem tomorrow, Feb. 13 to compete for a wrestling state title.

Alhasi will compete in the 113 pound weight class as he has all year on the Mat Cane squad.

He placed third in sectionals last weekend held at Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross. He was one of three Mat Canes competing in Norcross; Tyler Seawright and Jacob Bowers each placed fifth in their weight classes earning them alternate slots for the state competition.

Though the Mat Canes had five individuals to qualify for sectionals last weekend only three were able to compete due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Mat Canes are coached by Andy Rewis.
