Shiloh Knights Play in Region Tourney

The Shiloh Christian Academy junior varsity boys entered their region tournament last Saturday ranked #2 in the GICAA D-2A North with a regular season record of 12-3.

The Knights played Friendship Christian Academy at North Georgia Christian School in Flowery Branch. The Knights jumped out to a 14-4 lead with the help of Trent Raines scoring 13 points in the first quarter. The Knights never looked back as they continued to move the ball well in transitions and protect the ball on both end of the court.

The Knights won 38-29 with Raines scoring 31; Parker Wyatt, 3; Jeremiah Hicks, 2; and Nathan Crawford, 2. The win in round one moved the Knights on to the region title game held later that day. In the title game, the Knights played a tough North Georgia Christian team that had the younger Knights struggling to move the ball down the floor.

The NGCS Crusaders defeated the younger Knights 63-30 giving the Knights the region runner up trophy.

Scoring leaders for the Knights in the title game were Austin Cumbess with 8 pts; Wyatt, 7; and Raines, 6.

Raines and Wyatt both received All-Tournament medals, which were awarded at the conclusion of the tournament.

The varsity boys wrapped up their regular season with a record of 14-3 defeating Barnes Academy last Friday 65-48. The older Knights traveled to Hartwell looking to hold onto their second place region ranking going into the tournament.

Scoring was led by David Sorrells with 21 pts; R.J. Whitlock, 14; Raines, 13; Wyatt, 6. The varsity Knights’ region tournament began February 10 and will continue through today in Watkinsville at Westminster Academy as they look to earn a spot in the state playoffs.
