Cougar Basketball Concludes

The curtain fell on the 2014-2015 basketball season for the Piedmont Academy varsity teams in the opening round of the GISA Class AA state tournament.

The boys were defeated 77-54 to Furtah Prep in a game played last Thursday at David Emanuel.

Chandler Burrell the team in scoring, as he has done throughout the season, with 15 points. Zach Beggs and Zach Wilson both finished with 12 points each.

The Lady Cougars dropped a close 39-35 first-round state game to LaGrange Academy on Feb. 24. Despite being a No. 4 seed, the Piedmont girls battled No. 1 seed LaGrange down to the final buzzer.

Trailing by one point going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars were outscored 10-7 in the game’s final eight minutes. Piedmont trailed 17-16 at halftime and led 10-4 after the first quarter.

Amelia Dodson scored 12 points to lead the Lady Cougars while Remington Marsh added eight points and Haley Tyler scored six.

Madison McCart finished with four points while Cheyenne Galloway added three. Matti Smith and Madison Burnham both made free throws.
