Canes Defeat Putnam

The two region games that the Monticello Hurricane varsity baseball team has played thus far have turned into two big region wins.

The varsity squad downed Putnam 15-1 Tuesday evening on the road.

Four runs in the first inning, another four in the third and six in the fourth pretty much sealed the deal. for the Canes.

Pitchers Tyler Mote, Chad Cain, and Tyler Seawright split time on the mound. In three innings, Mote earned 3 strikeouts, and 6 first pitch strikes (FPS); Cain had 3 FPS; and Seawright had 1 strikeout.

Offensively it was all Hurricanes! Matthew Lawson had 3 hits, 4 runs batted in (RBIs), and 3 quality at bats (QABs); Michael Wyatt, Jr. had 2 hits, and 4 RBIs; Mote had 2 walks, 4 RBIs, and 3 QABs; Quinton Standifer had 2 walks, and 3 QABs.

The squad fell to Monroe Area last week by a single run, 5-4..

Wyatt and Mote were on the mound. Wyatt had 2 strikeouts and 10 FPS while Mote had 2.

Lawson had 2 hits and 3 QABS; Stephen Arena had 2 walks and 3 QABs; Josh Disharoon had 2 walks; and Wyatt had 2 RBIs.

The team was scheduled to play Morgan Wednesday before resuming region action today, March 19 at Jackson and hosting Macon County tomorrow, March 20, and traveling to Crawford on Tuesday, March 24. All games slated to begin at 5 p.m.
