Cougar Tracksters Compete

Piedmont Academy’s track teams competed for the first time this spring during a meet hosted by Gatewood in Eatonton last week.

Along with Piedmont and Gatewood, athletes from Bethlehem Christian Academy, Brentwood, Briarwood, Convenant, John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, Westfield and Windsor took part in the meet.

All 33 of Piedmont’s athletes participated in several events. Coaches said it was the first real track experience for Piedmont in 2015.

Top times and performances for Piedmont included:

•Shot put: Jeremiah Dave (45-6) and Gaven Edge (39-10). Both won their heats.

•100-meter dash: Hunter Knox, 12.2 and Ben Davis, 12.53

•400-meter dash: Hunter Knox, 48.0

•1,600-meter run: Mack Brady, 5:37

•100-meter hurdles: Amelia Dodson, 21.09; Cassidy Cook, 21.22 and Alexis Dodson, 22.46.

•100-meter dash: Cook, 14. 7 (won her heat); Anna Knox, 14.84; Sydney Davis, 15.02 and Remington Marsh, 15.53

•800-meter dash: Sara Hammonds, 2.47.

Emily Hammock did not participate in the season’s first meet, but coaches expect her to compete in the state finals for the Lady Cougars in both the 200-meter and 400-meter.

“We had good results with each track member and now they all have a starting point for their personal best,” coaches said.
