Cougar Baseball Squad Wins
The Piedmont Academy baseball team posted an 8-2 non-region win against Central Georgia Arts & Athletics Friday and enters spring break just about where it wants to be.
The Diamond Cougars are 8-4-2 overall, but more importantly 3-0 in GISA Region 4-AA. Following spring break, Piedmont will have three key region games on tap against Monsignor Donovan, Windsor and Briarwood.
Mike Davis earned the win last Friday in a game played at Luther Williams Field in Macon. Davis went three innings allowing three hits and no runs while striking out five.
Luke Andrews then pitched two innings in relief giving up just one hit while striking out one. Brock Carter worked the final two innings allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.
“It was a great team effort,” said coach Daniel Funt. “It was awesome to see everyone contribute.”
Offensively, Zach Beggs was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI while Carter was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Andrews finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI and Mike Weatherly was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Carter, Weatherly, Andrews and Beggs each had doubles.
On the base paths, Carter, Hunter Knox, Wyatt Galloway, Mack Brady and Michael Edwards all had stolen bases.
Piedmont scored two runs in the top of the second and added one more in the third and two more in the fourth before Central Georgia Arts & Athletics put its lone two runs of the game on the board. The Cougars answered, however, with one in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth.
“With spring break, it will be time to rest and then great ready for three big region games in a row,” Funt said.
Piedmont will host Monsignor Donovan on Friday, April 10, before hosting Windsor on Tuesday, April 14. The team will then venture to Briarwood for another region contest on Thursday, April 16.
