Canes Post Wins

Two region wins were added to the Monticello Hurricanes’ season record when the varsity squad took down Macon County Tuesday 13-1 and Putnam County 3-2 last Wednesday.

Against Putnam, two runs in the fourth inning and one in the eighth was enough for the local squad to claim victory and remain undefeated in the region.

The Tylers, Seawright and Mote, took turns on the mound against Putnam. Both of them earned six strikeouts apiece and Seawright had 17 first pitch strikes (FPS) and Mote had 9 FPS. Mote also had two quality at bats (QABs), one run batted in (RBI), and a walk.

Matthew Lawson had two walks and three QABS; Quinton Standifer had one walk; and Braden Lynch had one RBI.

The Canes added a non-region 15-8 victory on Monday at Strong Rock Christian School in Locust Grove. Lynch and Cain Gonzales shared pitching duties. Mote had two hits, two walks, one RBI, and three QABs. Josh Disharoon had three hits. Lawson had two walks and three QABs.

The rainy weather has been an issue for many high school sports as of recent and this week will certainly be no different as rain is forecast every day.

The varsity squad is scheduled to host Crawford tomorrow, April 17 at 5 p.m. They are to round out their regular season Monday, April 20 and Wednesday, April 22 against Lamar and Bleckley, respectively. All of the remaining games are region matches.
