CO-WORKERS FREE DRIVER

Two employees of Georgia Power at Plant Scherer in Juliette, one from Monticello and one from Sparta, happened upon this truck right after it ran off Hwy. 142 near Davidson Road Monday, and were able to pull the driver to safety.

The semi-conscious man was making no effort to exit the vehicle when Brandon Phillips of Monticello and his co-worker, Greg Warren of Sparta, came upon the scene from different directions. Mr. Phillips used his pocket knife to cut the victim’s seat belt lose, then the two of them pulled him away from the burning truck to safety.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Howard Prunty was driving his 1994 Ford pick-up traveling east on Hwy. 142 when he entered a curve and lost control and ran off the road, down and embankment and went airborne then overturned. Mr. Prunty was airlifted to an area hospital. His condition was not known at press time.
