Edmund Lewis Williams, Jr.

Edmund Lewis Williams, Jr., age 85, of Monticello, died Saturday, April 25, 2015, at his residence.

Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in 1929, Edmund Lewis Williams, Jr. was a long time resident of Arkansas before moving to Georgia. His parents were the late Edmund Lewis Williams, Sr., and Nancy Ittner Williams.

He attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, before graduating from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a First Lieutenant pilot. He was stationed in Germany, and earned the National Defense Medal and the Occupation Germany Medal.

Edmund was retail Operations Manager for J. C. Penney and spent his last 15 years with Herman Miller before his retirement in 1994.

He was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Tucker, Ga., and later, Monticello First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School, Discipleship courses, and served as a frequent delegate to UMC Annual Conferences, along with his wife of 61 years, Sue Garrison Williams.

He was preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Mary Frances Williams Montgomery and Jim Montgomery.

Along with his wife, Sue Williams of Monticello; he is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Dr. Lisa Ellen Gantner of Columbus, Laura Lynn and Charles Douglas Kintz of Stone Mountain, and Deila Harriet Williams of Lawrenceville; son and daughter-in-law, Edmund Lewis, III, and Liliana Williams of Loganville; grandchildren, Glenn and April Gantner, Emily Kintz, Alyssa Gantner, Benjamin Williams, Thomas Mitchell “Mitch” Williams, and Beau Garrison Williams; and sister and brother-in-law, Anne and James Collier of Rogers, Arkansas.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Monticello First United Methodist Church. Dr. Stephen Soulen will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations to Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, Ga. 30025.
