Cane Soccer Wins First Round of State

The Monticello Hurricane Boys’ Soccer Team advanced to the second round of the state Class AA tournament Friday when the Hurricanes defeated East Laurens 3-2.

Coach Michael Cooper said the scorers for the playoff game were Kelly Jaramillo, Zach Daniel and Jose Luis Bautista, and that the goal was ably defended by Alejandro Jaramillo.

Because of their win Friday, the Hurricanes were scheduled to host the second round of the state tournament Wednesday at Rose Bowl Field against Lovett High School. A win in that game would advance the Hurricanes to the third round on May 9.

Coach Cooper expressed his pride in his team for their hard work and determination to go farther than the JCHS Soccer team has ever gone in the playoffs.

“The guys are working together as a team and I’m excited about the remainder of the season,” he said.
