JCHS Holds Graduation

Saturday dawned clear and warm for the graduation ceremony for the Jasper County High School Class of 2015.

More than 115 graduates walked across the stage at Rose Bowl field and received their diplomas, and there were a few who did not walk, making the total graduating class number 126.

Class President Quinton Standifer welcomed everyone, and the senior class secretary/treasurer Jamyer Sands gave the invocation. After that, Emmi Wade gave the salutatory address, and Taylor Edwards gave the valedictory address. The senior ensemble then presented special music.

Miss Wade, as senior class vice president of awards made special presentations.

Buddy Cain, assistant principal at the school presented the class, and Superintendent Dr. Mike Newton presented the diplomas to each student.

After all the students received their diplomas, Mr. Standifer led the turning of the tassel, signifying the students’ transition from candidate to graduate.

Following that the class and audience joined in singing the Alma Mater.

The JCHS Class of 2015 earned about $557,860 in scholarships and/or grants. More than 50 college acceptances have been received; four students have enlisted in the Marines, and one as joined the Army. A special section was included in last week’s Monticello News honoring the graduates of all local schools. Beta and honor graduates are listed on page 6 of today’s paper, as are top subject award winners. Most scholarship winners that are known were announced in last week’s paper.

Shiloh Christian Academy plans graduation tomorrow, May 22, at 7 p.m, and Piedmont Academy seniors will graduate Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m.
