Mitchell Alvery ‘Mike’ Waggoner, Jr.
Mitchell Alvery “Mike” Waggoner, Jr., age 78, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the Medical Center Navicent Health in Macon.
Mike Waggoner was born in Salisbury, N.C., to the late Mitchell Alvery Waggoner, Sr. and Marjorie Elizabeth Mesinheimer Waggoner. He moved to the Atlanta area in 1960, with the J.H. Cook & Sons Company where he worked for 42 years. After his retirement in 1995, he moved to Mansfield.
Mike was a member of the Monticello Presbyterian Church and a former Elder with the St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Decatur. He loved his family and was very involved in his children’s activities and coached many of their sports. He was very proud of his grandchildren.
After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, playing golf, and spending time at the beach.
A sister, Ann Leonard, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Craig Waggoner of Mansfield; children, Lisa (Mike) Crawford of McDonough, Craig Waggoner of Covington, and Rich (Julie) Waggoner of Conyers; grandchildren, Cameron Crawford, Nicholas Waggoner, Debra McNeill, and Jena Waggoner; and special nieces, Terry Sides of Rockwell, N.C., Cathy Leonard of Gainesville, Fla., Wendy Foster and Christine Craig of Salisbury, N.C.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 5, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., at the Monticello Presbyterian Church. Rev. Rindy Trouteaud and Pastor Paul Leslie will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 7:30 P.M., Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Fellowship Hall of the Monticello Presbyterian Church.
