Shady Dale Rodeo Is this Weekend

BARREL RACING IS ONE EVENT AT RODEO

This Friday and Saturday night, June 5 and 6 at 8 p.m., you will not want to miss one of the top five rodeos in the U.S. and Canada, occurring right here in Jasper County, in the big city of Shady Dale.

The award winning Shady Dale Rodeo is sanctioned by the International Professional Rodeo Association and is produced by the Masonic Lodges of Jasper County.

Proudly celebrating their 32nd year, it is located on Hwy 83 just south of the red flashing light at the intersection of Hwy. 83 and Hwy. 142.

This year’s rodeo will feature the best cowboys and cowgirls from North America competing for $36,000 in prize money, matched against the toughest livestock from the Southern Rodeo Company.

The rodeo has something for the whole family, bare back and saddle bronc riding, tie down roping, break away roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, team roping, world championship bull riding and a calf scramble for kids 6 to 12. Children under 5 are admitted free, kids ages six 6 to 12 are $5 and adults tickets are $15.

A variety of concessions will be available from home cooked BBQ, hotdogs, hamburgers, boiled peanuts and the favorite, Farm Bureau ladies’ homemade cakes, pies, cookies and other sweets.

The hilarious Mike Wentworth will be returning this year as the clown with the specialty act featuring Rawhide and Dusty performing their colorful bull whip and horsemanship act. In addition, the spectacular Southern Exposure Drill Team will be performing again this year.

The rodeo announcer, David Sharp of Xtreme Bulls on ESPN is back along with the reigning 2015, Miss Rodeo USA, Kirbi Allen, from Springdale, Ark. She will be signing autographs Saturday morning on the square and at Hays Tractor and Equipment in Mansfield from 10:30 till noon.

The corporate sponsors of the 32nd Shady Dale Rodeo are Hooper Trailer Sales, Ginn Motor Company, Pennington Seed, Tractor Supply, Hays Tractor and Equipment and the Wright Place for Horses.

The proceeds from the rodeo’s ticket sales go toward charity and are awarded to the Scottish Rite Care for the hearing impaired, The Shrine Burn Hospital, The York Rite Eye Foundation, The Masonic Children’s Home in Macon and to provide college scholarships for the education of local youth.

Parking is free and all tickets can be purchased at the gate. During the day beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Shady Dale’s Rodeo Roundup Festival will entertain Rodeo fans with music, vendors and eats with the award winning mile long American Legion – Al Sihah Shrine parade beginning at 3 p.m. Sergeant Major Walter J. Cargile will have the honor of being the Grand Marshall of the parade this year.
