Town Hall Meeting Set Tuesday

The Jasper County Commissioners and officials from Monticello and Shady Dale will be at a town hall meeting next Tuesday, June 23, beginning at 5 p.m.

At 6 p.m., the officials will hold a panel discussion moderated by Jim Dove with the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission.

Before the panel discussion, county departments and agencies will have informational booths to let citizens know about what they do. Most entities receiving county funding have been invited.

The public is invited to submit questions for their elected officials to answer, and is encouraged to come hear what they have to say.

The evening is sponsored by the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce.

Jim Dove assumed the duties of Executive Director of the Northeast Georgia Area Planning and Development Commission, now Regional Commission, October 1, 1987, and is the longest tenured director in the history of the organization.

During his tenure as Executive Director, he has overseen the expansion of the Regional Commission from 10 counties and 47 cities to its current 12 counties and 54 cities, with a population in excess of 574,000. He is currently serving a second two-year term as President of the Georgia Association of Regional Commissions and is serving a seventh term on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Development Organizations. He also serves as a member and 1st Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Development District Association of Appalachia, which works to improve economic conditions in a 13-state region.

He and his wife, Nancy, are members of the First Presbyterian Church in Athens, where he serves as an elder. They have a daughter, Jamie, who is pursuing a Master of Public Administration Degree at the University of Georgia.

Mr. Dove attended UGA where he received a bachelor of science degree in education and a master’s degree in public administration.
