Marijuana Is Seized

On Tuesday, June 23, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 577 Gilbert Road. The search warrant was the result of a joint operation between the Governor’s Task Force for Marijuana Eradication and the local Sheriff’s Office.
Approximately 15 marijuana plants and nine pounds of processed marijuana were located at the residence. Dwight Clay Gilbert, 54, of that address was charged with manufacturing marijuana, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Also, this week, former county employee Sherry Dale Braley was arrested and charged with theft by taking. The warrant says she unlawfully appropriated money in excess of $15,000 with the intention of depriving the county of Jasper of that money.
The theft allegedly occurred between May 1, 2013 and June 19, 2015. Ms. Braley resigned from her position on Friday, June 19.
Before her resignation she was the county’s Planning & Zoning Administrator, and oversaw the operations of both code enforcement and animal control.
The warrant was taken by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and a spokesman said irregularities were found in the audit, and the sheriff’s office called in the GBI. Ms. Braley was booked into the Jasper County jail, and released on a $5,000 bond.
Several burglaries were reported in the last week, basically all over the county. An entering auto and two burglaries were reported at residences in Monticello, and burglaries were also reported on Liberty Drive and Liberty Church Road, Calvin Road, Dykes Road, and on Hwy. 83 north.
Several people were also arrested in the last week. They include:
