Arthur Lee “Buck” Glawson, Sr.

Funeral services for Arthur Lee “Buck” Glawson, Sr., 96, were held Friday, July 3 at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Jimmy Horton officiated.

He died June 29.

Mr. Glawson was born July 4, 1918 to the late Jimmy and Anna Glawson as one of five children including siblings, J.C., Ann, Mattie, and Sarah.

His early school days were at Pine Chapel in Jones County. He married Fannie Lou Standifer on June 4, 1944 and to this union were born nine children.

The dedicated husband of 67 years and father enjoyed providing for his family by farming and gardening. He was employed by Southern Railroad, where he retired after more than 40 years of service. His favorite hobbies were telling stories to the kids, passing out candy and having fellowship in the community.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Glawson was preceded in death by his daughter, Carrie G. Stewart; grandson, Curtis E. Glawson, Jr.; and great-granddaughter, Bella Cook.

Survivors include five daughters, Ola Mae Glawson, Shirley Vinson, Sarah (Charles) Hill, Mildred (Ted) Colvard, Terrell (Wayne) Banks; three sons, Arthur (Victoria) Glawson, Jr., Rev. Terry (Vickie) Glawson, Sr. and Curtis E. Glawson, Sr.; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Davis and Reva Standifer; 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; devoted caregiver Mary J. Pope; and a number of other relatives, friends, and church family.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
