Robert L. Campbell, Jr.
A celebration of life for Robert L. Campbell, Jr., who died July 22, 2015, was held July 25, at the chapel of Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Monticello. Rev. Jimmy Horton officiated; burial was in Campbell Crossroad Cemetery.
Mr. Campbell was born January 2, 1927 to the late Robert and Emma Campbell of Monticello. He received his education in the Jasper County School System.
Early in his adult life he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War in the 1950s.
Robert Lee worked in the pulpwood business and U.S. Forest Service, before going to work at the city of Monticello from which he retired in 1992.
He enjoyed sitting on the porch, reading the local newspaper and watching his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. Those were his pastimes.
Robert Lee was preceded in death by a significant other, Julia M. Dennis, and a daughter, Wylean Jordan.
Survivors include five children, Willie L. Dennis, Roosevelt Dennis, Eudorothy Carter (Charles), Patricia A. Clark (Evan), and Janice Maddox (Earnest), all of Monticello; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; also special friends, Bessie Evans, Homer Marks and a host of other relatives and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
