Karen Degges Is Fired for Cause

The Jasper County Commissioners, in a called meeting last Thursday, voted unanimously to immediately terminate County Manager Karen Degges for cause.

On July 6, the same board had voted to give Ms. Degges 90 days medical leave with pay. Thursday’s action came after a brief closed session with two attorneys for the county present.

Commissioner Craig Salmon was absent.

Commissioners named Mike Benton interim County Manager at the July 6 meeting, and he continues in that position.
