Mrs. Elizabeth Dean Ford Maddox
On the afternoon of Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, Mrs. Elizabeth Dean Ford Maddox passed away at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, after a period of illness. She was being comforted and visited by family members at the time of her passing. She was 87 years old.
Elizabeth Maddox was born January 20, 1928 in Monticello to the parentage of the late Margaret Ann Ford and Rayford Cunard. She attended Jasper County Training School in Monticello, and Morris Brown College in Atlanta. She went on to become a teacher by profession, as well as a supportive military spouse and proud mother. A woman of faith, she was a longstanding member of St. James A.M.E. Church. A talented vocalist, she enjoyed singing hymns and playing her organ, in addition to studying her Bible, cooking and entertaining family and friends at her home.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Eugene Maddox, her parents, and a sister, Grace Thompkins.
Mrs. Maddox is survived by a son, Patrick Eugene Maddox of Oldsmar, Fla.; two daughters, Margaret Ann Garner and Lisa Dean Maddox, both of Monticello; a brother, Patrick Henry Ford (Donna) of Covington; three grandchildren, Yvette Scott of Conyers, Maya Garner of Atlanta and Skylor Maddox of Monticello, and numerous relatives and friends.
Public visitation will take place at Smith & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a private family service. Flowers and memorials may be taken directly to the funeral home, and the family will receive visitors for fellowship at the family home on Ford Street.
