Lady Cougars Defeat Briarwood

The winning ways continued for the Piedmont Academy varsity softball team Tuesday as the Lady Cougars won a 22-7 slugfest against Briarwood on the road.

Maddie Morton earned the win pitching all four innings of Tuesday’s game which was called early due to the mercy rule.

Several players had big performances offensively including Neely Bradford, who had a three-run homer. Madison Johnson also had an RBI double.

“It was a good offensive effort,” said coach Daniel Funt. “Our defense settled down after the first inning. We just have to keep improving.”

The Middle School Lady Cougars earned an 11-7 win Tuesday against Briarwood. The game was delayed by rain in the first inning and then called for darkness in the top of the fifth.

“On defense, we struggled early but then improved,” said coach Cameron Vaughn.

Kenzie Rogers earned the win while Hannah Tyler and Fleming Sealy helped lead the team at the plate.
