JLHA Learns about Plans for Lake

Cheryl Wheeler, Georgia Power Jackson Lake Resources Manager, spoke at the August meeting of Jackson Lake Homeowners Association meeting held August 7 at Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center. Some 110 members were present for the dinner meeting Friday.

Ms. Wheeler announced that Jackson Lake will be drawn down starting on December 26, 2015 and begin refilling on February 7, 2016. Residents who own property around the lake take this time to repair or install docks and seawalls.

She also spoke about Georgia Power’s efforts to control invasive weeds which reduce oxygen levels in the lake and can lead to fish kills. Homeowners are asked to prevent polluting the lake with fertilizer and to report anyone putting leaves in the lake.

President Jared Godin announced that the recent Jackson Lake Homeowners Poker Run raised $12,000 which was donated to the Jasper County Food Bank, Butts County Lions Club, the Newton County 4-H Clubs and to fund their scholarship program.

He thanked Ken and Beth Rogers for their work on the Jackson Lake Sun, the newspaper published for JLHA members and those who frequent the lake.

Members and volunteers did a lake cleanup on August 8. Currently the club owns four pontoon boats that are used to collect trash.

The next meeting is set for Friday, November 13. For information, visit the association’s website is www.jlha.org.
