Lady Cougars Defeat Sharpsburg

Piedmont Academy’s softball team blanked Trinity-Sharpsburg 8-0 on the road last Thursday, continuing its strong play of late.

Neely Bradford pitched a complete game allowing no runs.

“All of our work is starting to pay off,” said coach Daniel Funt. “We executed offensively which resulted in a better score against them. Things are coming together, we just need to continue to improve.”

At the plate, Cassidy Cook was 3-for-4 with two runs while Hailey Hooper was 2-for-4 with a run. Matti Smith finished 1-for-3 with three RBI and Madison Johnson was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.

Kylie Garner was 1-for-1 with a run while Taylor Swart was 1-for-2 with a run and two walks and Haley Tyler was 1-for-1 with two runs and walk.

The Lady Cougars will return to the field Friday when they host Gatewood at 6 p.m. The team will travel to Westfield Monday for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Middle School Lady Cougars were leading Trinity-Sharpsburg 7-0 in the fifth inning when their game was called due to the time limit. Fleming Sealy pitched a scoreless game with six strikeouts.

Sealy was also 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI while Kenzie Rodgers was 1-for-3 and drove in a run. Hannah Tyler finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI.
