MARKET SATURDAYS

The local Farmer’s Market, also known as the Market Festival on the Square has something for everyone. This past weekend children enjoyed visits from Spongebob Squarepants and Doc McStuffins (right).

Some regulars at the market include (top photo) Mr. and Mrs. Tom Joye who have fresh produce, canned items, and handmade jewelry, as well as Mike Womack who offers items which include various canned goods as well as jellies, and sometimes fresh produce. He pickles lots of items, so you just have to go see. Charlie Dunshie makes all sorts of items out of woodwork from the monograms shown above to hummingbirds, deer, crosses, names, and lots more.

Other staples at the market include (middle photo at right) Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Edwards who have homemade fried pork skins in an assortment of flavors. And don’t miss Leah Dumas’ homemade pies, or Laverne Howard’s fresh vegetables and canned goods, as well as fried pies. Some weeks there is entertainment. This week’s children’s feature is a Jasper County fire truck that the children, and adults, can explore.

The Market is open on the Square every Saturday through October from 8 a.m. to noon. More than 40 vendors are registered so you never know what you may find there.
