Lady Cougars Win Again

Piedmont Academy’s varsity softball team returned to the field Tuesday and recorded a 13-1 home win against Trinity-Sharpsburg.

The Lady Cougars scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

Piedmont closed out the win in four innings. Maddie Morton earned the win striking out four batters.

“It was a good team win,” said coach Daniel Funt. “The girls are excited for region play to begin Thursday.”

Ashley Johnston was 2-for-2 offensively with a run scored and Cassidy Cook was 1-for-1 with an RBI and run. Matti Smith finished Tuesday’s game 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs. Haley Tyler scored two runs while Hailey Hooper, Alexis Dodson, Gracie Hunt, Neely Bradford and Madison Burnham also contributed in the victory.

Piedmont travels to LaGrange Academy today, Sept. 10,. for a 5 p.m. contest before traveling to Heritage Saturday at 2 p.m. The team returns home next Tuesday, Sept. 15, to face Brentwood at 4:30 p.m.
