Eternity in Heaven

This summer we traveled from Nevada into California and up the west coast to Seattle. Our coach driver was the best we have ever experienced on a trip.

From day one he took excellent care of each and every one of us along our travel to various destinations. He went beyond our expectations for coach drivers. Many mornings before loading the coach he would give us cookies or candy to enjoy throughout the day.

In the redwood forest, we stopped for lunch and he brought out, cut, and gave us watermelon. At another stop he bought souvenirs and gave them to different travelers. Most coach drivers will provide you with bottles of water. He provided us with water, power drinks, and soft drinks.

At scenic stops, he took our cameras and made pictures of couples and groups. It’s not difficult to imagine that while dreaming one night of being a tour guide, this driver was the driver of the tour I was leading. I don’t remember where I was leading a tour; I don’t remember much about the dream, other than he was the coach driver.

Isn’t it interesting that God reminds us of good people in the world as we dream at night? It was a blessing to have such a wonderful person to take us from point A to point B, each and every day, in a professional and Christian way. We need more like him in our world.

In two days I will have been separated from my dad for somewhere around 4,748 days. My wife has been separated from her dad longer than I have mine. They will have been separated for around 7,308 days by the first of December.

In an instant my dad was taken from us. I would have never imagined that I could have made it this long without him. He was a great resource for support and guidance in this life. He made it possible to see on a smaller scale of how God takes care of his children on a larger scale. I can’t imagine going through my life without such an earthly father and a heavenly Father.

I definitely cannot imagine going through eternity without being in the presence of these two. Four thousand, seven hundred forty eight days is a long time; eternity is even longer. I think we forget this much too often—that our destination after this life is forever. It is not a temporary place; it is a permanent place. It is either heaven or is it hell.

What parents, preachers and Sunday school teachers have taught me over the years about Christ and heaven is very comforting and encouraging. I believe heaven is for real and I believe hell is for real. While I am not perfect and I seek forgiveness every day, my goal in life is to reach and spend eternity in heaven.

My prayer is that each person who reads my column today will make it a priority in their life to reach and spend eternity in heaven as well. Where we spend eternity depends on the decisions we make in the here and now.

May God encourage and inspire you to make better decisions so that you may spend your destiny in heaven. May your actions each day, like the coach driver, remind others that we can do things for others, little or large, in the here and now.
