Clay Crushing Cougars Begin New Season

The Piedmont Academy Clay Crushing Cougar shotgun team kicked off its season Last Saturday at Old Hudson Plantation in Sparta.

A total of 15 schools competed and throughout the day, 150 competitors fired 50 rounds of skeet and 100 rounds of sporting clays. The top five shooters for the Clay Crushing Cougars were Mitch Marsh, 124; Hunter Whiting, 122; Zach Sanders, 121; Eli Waits, 112 and Andrew Chapko, 104.

All the shooters did very well and we congratulate each of them,” said team coaches.

Piedmont placed in the top 3 of 15 teams that competed Saturday.

The coaches thanked all team members, parents, sponsors and supporters for all their help in the success of the Cougar shotgun team.

This year’s shotgun team includes Joseph Anderson, Browning Benton, Owen Brady, Blake Calhoun, Andrew Chapko, Katherine Cunningham, Chris Coogler, Kevin Davis, Wyatt Galloway, Anne Marie Hildebrant, Hagan Hinson, Mitch Marsh, Noah Quick, Zach Sanders, Preston Tyler, Eli Waits and Hunter Whiting.

The next competition will be Saturday, Sept. 26, at Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds located in College Park.

Piedmont is led by head coach Brian Marsh and assistant coaches Tim Chapko, Alison Hildebrant and Stacy Waits.
