MS Cougars Defeat Covenant
Piedmont Academy’s Middle School football team earned its second win of 2015 by defeating Covenant on the road in Macon 28-14 last week.
The Cougars overcame a lightning delay, which lasted approximately two hours. The teams were able to finish the first half and half of the third quarter before the action was close.
“I think we played well once again,” said coach Alvin Hawkes. “We alleviated the turnovers that we had in the first game.”
Offensively, Owen Brady scored on the first play for Piedmont. Brady was a factor on both sides of the football as he also intercepted a Covenant pass.
Tate Marks finished the contest with two touchdowns and Dylan Coe also reached the endzone from his quarterback position. Zach Spivey had a one-handed catch for a two-point conversion that was called back.
“Overall, it was a great team effort win,” said Hawkes. “Our line of scrimmage did a great job against some players who were bigger than us.”
Helping clear the way up front for the Middle School Cougars were left tackle Blake Calhoun, left guard Cameron Mobley, center Mark Hicks, right guard Jake Matthews, right tackle Caleb Coffey and Spivey at tight end.
Piedmont will host Briarwood on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m.
