Cane Cross Country Competes
The Jasper County High School varsity cross country teams attended a quad meet hosted by Jackson High School at the Dauset Trails Nature Center last week.
Jasper competed with Jackson, Locust Grove, and Rutland with 4A powerhouse Locust Grove dominating the meet in both the varsity boys and girls races, earning individual and team firsts in each. The Canes finished third in the team events.
The Cane boys were led by senior Crescencio Perez, who clocked in at 20:03.28 for seventh place overall. Denzel Sands finished with a strong 21:22.93 in 15th place, and Matthew Lawson followed in 21st place with a time of 22:24.08. Rounding out the JCHS boys were Brelan Crowe (25:35.05), Jack Johnston (26:43.83), Caleb Usry (27:12.99) and Niall Alhasi (28:00.94).
In varsity girls action, sophomore newcomer Ariel Nichols led the way for JCHS, finishing with a time of 28:15.37 in 11th place. She was followed by Star Caldwell (33:36.16), Riley Burton (33:49.59) and Kylie Harris (34:01.30).
“We are a little behind right now because of missing the meet last week due to a rain out, but the kids are working hard and almost everyone that ran improved their times from our first meet,” said Head Coach Andy Rewis.
The team’s first meet was held at Morgan County High School. Top finishing runners for JCHS were sophomores Kevin Kitchens (21:01.08) in 17th place for the boys and Alina Jablonski (23:58.03) in fourth place for the girls.
