Steven Douglas Currie
Steven Douglas Currie, age 44, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015, at The Retreat Nursing Home.
Steve Currie was born in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on July 16, 1971. He is the son of Douglas and Lura Johns Currie. After graduating from high school in 1990, Steve enlisted in the U. S. Army. He served in the 82nd Airborne during Desert Storm.
After his discharge from the Army, Steve made his home in Monticello in 1998. He owned and operated Sun Down Collision, Monticello Auto Parts, Perimeter Storage, and Southern Pro Towing.
Along with his numerous businesses, Steve was a volunteer fireman and first responder; and a former president of the Chamber of Commerce.
Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, kayaking, and worked on a pit crew for stock car racing. He loved animals; always bringing home strays; and enjoyed running in races which included the Deer Dash and the Peachtree Road Race.
He was a member of the Monticello Presbyterian Church.
Steve is survived by his children, Wyatt Currie and Morgan Currie of Monticello; parents, Douglas and Lura Johns Currie of Monticello; grandmother, Florence Currie of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sister, Jenny Currie of Grayson; brother and sister-in-law, Clinton and Amanda Currie of Monticello; nephews and nieces, Hunter Lloyd, Harrison Lloyd, Hope Lloyd, Emma Belle Currie, John Currie, Jacob Currie, and Timothy Currie; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held today, Oct. 8, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Monticello Presbyterian Church. Rev. Denny Isbell will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, prior to the service at the Monticello Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Eagle Ranch Children’s Home, 5500 Union Church Road, Flowery Branch, GA 30542.
