Clay Crushing Cougars Compete

The Piedmont Academy Clay Crushing Cougars competed Saturday, Sept. 26, in Atlanta at the Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds.

Thirteen schools and 126 shooters took part in Saturday’s events. The shooting conditions were tough as it poured down rain all day.

“Shooting is a lot like football,” Piedmont coaches said. “The competition must go on unless it’s thundering and lightning.”

The shooters competed in the disciplines of skeet and trap and fired 75 rounds per event. The Clay Crushing Cougars finished fifth.

The top five shooters for the Clay Crushing Cougars were Joseph Anderson, 128; Anne Marie Hildebrant, 126; Mitch Marsh, 118; Andrew Chapko, 112 and Zach Sanders, 112.

Top skeet were Joseph Anderson, 68; Mitch Marsh, 66; Eli Waits, 65; Anne Marie Hildebrant, 62 and Browning Benton, 56.

Top trap shooters were Anne Marie Hildebrant, 64; Joseph Anderson, 60; Andrew Chapko, 60; Owen Brady, 57 and Zach Sanders, 57.

Anne Marie Hildebrant was the Ladies High Overall (HOA) shooter for the competition.

Even though the conditions were challenging, it was a great opportunity to shoot in the rain in preparation for the GISA State Shooting Competition, coaches said.
