Contest Winner Gets 11 Right

It proved to be another tough contest week with no player in The Monticello News football contest getting as many as 12 right picks.

However, eight people correctly picked the winners of 11 games listed, and Mary Tumlin, veteran contest player, was the closest on the tie-breaker. For her effort, she collected a $25 prize from Patrick Diaz at M.D. HVAC, sponsor of the week.

Mrs. Tumlin guessed 42 points would be scored in Crawford County’s 26-21 defeat of Monticello. Mrs. Tumlin said that’s her lucky score. She doesn’t know where she got it, but she uses it every time. This time it worked!

Other players with 11 right included DeAnne Greenway, who guessed 41 points would be scored, and Jacob Greenway, Jess Greenway, Bailey Cook, Cameron Mobley, Hattie McMurry and Carson Gaston.

Mrs. Tumlin is the only one who made the honor roll, as the winner automatically makes it, and others have to get at least 12 right.

Mrs. Tumlin said it’s been a long time since she won before. That time, the sponsor was Big Chic, owned by Scott Smith. She plays faithfully, and it paid off this week.

Maybe this week will be a little easier. Or not. Whoever guesses the most winners of the 15 games listed, subject to the tie-breaker, will be the winner next week, and pick up a prize from Monticello Drugs and Dana Leach Realty, sponsors of the week.

Anyone can play, and anyone can win. Just be sure to submit your entry no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 9, to The Monticello News, 247 West Washington Street, or fax it to 706-468-6576.
