HS Cross Country Competes

JCHS Cross Country competed at Dauset Trails last Thursday, Oct. 8, in a one-on-one matchup with Jackson High School.

The boys’ team lost to Jackson’s stronger overall lineup, and the girls didn’t have enough runners competing to field a team, but both squads came home with several outstanding individual performances and improved times.

In the varsity girls race, sophomore Alina Jablonski finished the 5K distance minutes ahead of the rest of the field, securing first place with a time of 21:33. It was her third individual win of the season. Ariel Nichols (30:28) and Riley Burton (30:30) also turned in solid performances.

For the varsity boys, sophomore Kevin Kitchens added another first place individual win to his stats, completing the course in 18:55 with a strong ending sprint that brought him in several seconds ahead of Jackson’s top competitor.

Perez (19:33) and Robert Womack (20:34) continue to give standout performances also, finishing in third and fifth places respectively.

With less than a month to go before the regional competition, Coach Andy Rewis believes the team is “starting to get where we need to be.”

“I’m real proud of Alina and Kevin for winning their races,” Rewis said. “We also had two seniors come up big for us in the boys race, with Chad Cain and Caleb Usry having their best races of the year.”
