Piedmont Celebrates Homecoming

PIEDMONT COUGAR 2015 HOMECOMING COURT

The 2015 homecoming festivities for Piedmont Academy concluded Friday, October 9, with the crowning of Miss Cougar, Matti Ruth Smith and Miss Homecoming Queen Bridgette Phillips.

During Spirit Week at the school, the Senior High Student Council, under the guidance of faculty advisor Kirstie Lewis, conducted events for each day. Students dressed in an array of clothing from various themes including “Merica Day,” “Nerd vs. Jock Day,” “Character Day,” “Senior Citizen Day,” and “Extreme Spirit Day.”

Ten high school girls were represented on the homecoming court. Miss Matti Ruth Smith was chosen by the varsity football team as Miss Cougar prior to voting for homecoming queen. Matti is the daughter of Keith and Gena Smith of Monticello and she was escorted by her father during the ceremony.

The freshman representatives were Sydney Davis escorted by her father, Melton Davis; Lawton Harris escorted by her father, Hal Harris; and Maddie Morton escorted by her father, Kevin Rogers.

Sophomore representatives included Grayson Bradley escorted by her father, Jim Bradley and Kylie Garner escorted by her brother, Ethan Fountain.

The junior class was represented by Ashley Johnston escorted by her father, Jay Johnston and Grace Roberts escorted by her father, Dan Roberts.

Senior representatives included Alicia Peek escorted by her brother, Harry Ragan; Bridgette Phillips escorted by her father, Don Harkins; and Haley Tyler escorted by her father, Jim Tyler.

Miss Cougar 2014, Cheyenne Galloway, crowned Miss Smith. Homecoming Queen 2014, Parker Kelly crowned Miss Phillips as Piedmont Academy’s Homecoming Queen 2015.

The ladies include (left to right) Lawson Harris, Grayson Bradley, Ashley Johnston, Alicia Peek, Haley Tyler, Matti Ruth Smith, Bridgette Phillips, Grace Roberts, Kylie Garner, Sydney Davis, and Maddie Morton.

Senior mascots and first-grade students, Jake Adamson, son of Clint and Heather Adamson of Jackson and Carly Maddox, son of Andy and Amie Maddox, also of Jackson participated in the ceremony by presenting the queens with their roses. This year’s queens will represent Piedmont Academy in the Jasper County Deer Festival parade on November 7. The event is coordinated by guidance counselor, Ashley Cook, and teacher and high school student council advisor, Kirstie Lewis.
