DEPARTING COUNCIL

Monticello Mayor Bryan Standifer (center) says good-bye to two departing City Council members after the December meeting. Mayor Pro-tem Bobby Jacobs (left) and Council person Katherine Alexander did not seek re-election and therefore have completed their terms on council, although they officially serve until December 31.
It would also have been Cornell Williams’ last meeting, but he was not present. Mayor Standifer also read the plaque for Mr. Williams, and congratulated him on his service. The council recounted how the city was nearly bankrupt when they took office, and now it is in the black. The councilors recounted some of their achievement, and said they would always hold the city dear. The council had a brief meeting for its final one, approving employee bonuses and alcohol licenses for some of the establishments in Monticello.
