Canes Win at Home
The varsity Hurricanes hosted conference opponent Bleckley County Tuesday evening with the Lady Canes falling but the Canes posting a victory.
The varsity girls fell 68-31 to the Royals while the varsity boys won 72-53.
With Tuesday’s win the varsity Canes rebounded from a conference loss to Crawford last week with three consecutive wins including games hosting Macon County and Jackson over the past week.
Against Bleckley, De’ Miria Glover had 18 points and seven rebounds; Tyrin Lawrence had 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal, and two blocks; C.J. Adams had 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
Also, Jordan Stone added 9 points, six assists, two steals, and two rebounds; Ashton Bonner added 7 points. R.J. Whitlock and Matthew Lawson each had 4 points. Whitlock recorded 10 rebounds and 2 blocks.
The squad earned another conference win last Friday while hosting Macon County with a 79-59 victory.
Bonner posted 20 points, five assists and five steals. Stone added 16 points, two rebounds and three assists. Glover scored 15 points, made 5-of-7 free throws, and had five rebounds. Other scorers were De’Ivion. Lawrence, 8; Whitlock, 6; Desmond Nash and Lawson, 4 each; Adams and T. Lawrence, 3 each.
Adams had four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block. T. Lawrence had three rebounds and three blocks. Nash, Whitlock, and Adams each had a block.
On Saturday, the Canes defeated Jackson 69-57 with Glover leading the scoring with 16 points while also leading in rebounds with 12 including nine defensive. He and Lawson were flawless at the free throw line with the team having an impressive night in that department making 17-of 24 free throws.
Adams and Bonner each earned 11 points; T. Lawrence had 9, Stone, 8; Whitlock, 6; Nash and Lawson, 3 each; and D. Lawrence, 2.
Whitlock had seven rebounds and three blocks. Bonner added four assists and four steals, Nash four rebounds, T. Lawrence two blocks.
The Lady Canes split action over the weekend losing and winning closely in both games. They fell 45-40 to Macon County but won 62-61 against Jackson.
Against Macon County, Madison Abbott scored 10 points with nine rebounds; Jameecia Thurman also had 10 points and five rebounds; Mackenzie Tripp had 6 points with five rebounds; and Terisha Adams had 6 points with five rebounds.
In the win against Jackson, Abbott led the scoring with 23 points and made six rebounds; Adams had 14 points and five rebounds; Sheridan Tripp added 10 points and four rebounds; and Thurman had 7 points and 10 rebounds; M. Tripp had 6 points and four rebounds; and Mia Jenkins had 4 points and five rebounds.
Next up for the varsity squads is a conference game at Putnam, Friday, Jan. 15 beginning at 5:30 p.m with the junior varsity boys followed by the varsity. The teams will travel to Jackson Saturday, Jan. 16 with the jv boys at 4:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Jan. 19 the team will host conference opponent Northeast beginning at 4:30 p.m. with jv boys.
