Willie James Driskell
A homegoing celebration for Mr. Willie James Driskell will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at noon at Springfield Baptist Church in Monticello. Pastor Preston Campbell will officiate; Rev. J. Horton is pastor.
Visitation will be at Curry and Derricho Funeral Home, Venture Court, Monticello, on Friday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 6 p.m.
Mr. Driskell died January 25, 2016 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.
Mr. Driskell was born May 1, 1945 to the late Mattie Pearl and Joseph Driskell. At an early age he joined the Maddox Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, but under the leadership of Rev. Preston Campbell is where he served until his health declined.
He attended Jasper County Training School, where he was an outstanding football player and track runner. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Leverette, on September 21, 1969. To this union two children were born, Done’ and Nicole.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harrison and Ulysses Driskell, and a sister, Mary Driskell; sister-in-law, Hattie Kate Driskell, and brothers-in-law, Benjamin Dudley, Jessie Rooks and Randolph Scott.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted wife of 46 years, Evelyn Driskell; two daughters, Done’ (Corey) Bell of Covington and Nicole Driskell of Monticello; four grandchildren, Traquavious Jackson, Mia Jackson, Natalie Bell and Brittany Bell; God-childen, Bernard (Kendra) Wright, Keysha Wright, Reyanna Williams, Alesha Jordan, Kayla Wright and Khania Williams; brothers, Willie Joe Driskell, Samuel Driskell and Larry Driskell, all of Monticello; sisters, Mattie Mae McFarland, Monticello and Martha Driskell of Cincinnati, Ohio; three uncles, Elder Charles (Inell) LaVaughn, Fred (Christine) LaVaughn, and Ben LaVaughn; an aunt, Naomi (Benjamin) Carey; five sister-in-laws, Dicie Rooks, Leila Dudley and Sally Ann Driskell of Monticello, Sarah Scott and Mozelle (Carl) Evans of Milledgeville; longtime friend, Leroy (Erica) Grant; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
