Jordan Stone was presented the Golden Helmet Award for the Monticello Hurricanes at the annual football awards banquet held last week at Jasper County High School, with Devin Robinson being named the most outstanding junior varsity player.

Other awards were presented to: Justin Smith, purple heart award; Matthew Hollis, coach’s award; Jeff Cain, academic award; Bryce Crawford, Hurricane pride offensive award; Colton Clay, Hurricane pride defensive award; and Jamari Myrick, most improved award.

Summer weight-lifting awards were presented to Micah Carnes and Dylan Jackson, ninth grade; Jesse Burton and Noah Faubli, tenth grade; Glendon Graybill, eleventh grade; and Jamaric Bonner, Jamari Myrick and Justin Smith, twelfth grade. Several all-region awards were also presented.

All of the football players, water girls and statisticians who finished the season were awarded varsity letters, and the managers received certificates of participation.

Head football coach Doug Huff began the awards portion of the banquet with words of appreciation to all those who had helped before and during the football season. He then introduced the coaching staff and recapped each of the games of the season.

Coach Huff expressed specific appreciation to the parents of the young men and women who participate in the football program, and then thanked those young men and women for their dedication to the program. He shared how much the seniors would be missed and encouraged the underclassmen to stay actively involved in the athletic programs at the school until football begins again in the spring.

The football banquet is sponsored each year by the Hurricane Football Booster Club.
