Mrs. Doris Louise Starr Moncrief

Mrs. Doris Louise Starr Moncrief, age 95, of Flovilla, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2016 at Westbury Medical Care Home.

She was born on Friday, Jan. 7, 1921 in Monticello, to the late Clarence Starr and the late Myrtice Pope Starr. She attended Flovilla United Methodist Church.

Many people would describe Mrs. Moncrief simply as a homemaker. To her friends, family, and to the community, she was so much more. “Mama Doris” was known and loved by many for her cooking, vegetable gardens and especially for her flowers. She also opened her home to many children and adults who needed food, shelter or some good old fashioned advice. Some even say that she helped to turn their lives around.

Mrs. Doris Moncrief is survived by her children and their spouses, Murry and Faye Moncrief, Louise and Billy James, Fred “Little Brother” Moncrief, Bobby Moncrief; grandchildren, Tracey Stegall, Mickey James, Keith James, Amy Odum, Corey Moncrief, Amanda Fuller; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; daughter-in-law, Gay Moncrief; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Moncrief are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016 at Sherrell Memorial Chapel in Jackson, with Rev. Ricky Stubbs officiating. Interment will follow at Sandy Creek Cemetery. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at www.sherrell-westburyfh.com.

The Sherrell-Westbury Funeral Home, 212 East College Street, Jackson, is serving the Moncrief family.
