Competition Cheerleaders Honored

The Jasper County High School competition cheerleading squad recently conducted its awards banquet recognizing several athletes for their participation.

Competition cheerleading awards were given to the following individuals and Coach Lindsey Riden, who will be vacating the position next season, provided commentary for some of the competitors.

Kaitlyn Pope—Best Base

Malia Moore—Most Improved

“She gave her all at a moment’s notice, and it showed through her improvement,” noted the coach.

Taylor Wages—Best Attitude

Cassidy Whitlock—Most Dependable

“She never misses a practice, and I can count on her always.”

Zoe Arena—Highest GPA and Leadership Award

“She constantly shows leadership skills in everything she does.”

Ardasia Benton— Triple A Award

“Her attitude is contagious. She is an incredible role model.”

Jessica Moore— Turn Up Award

Brett Barger—Iron Man Award

“She never gave up and gave it her all when it counted the most.”

Shalea Bishop—Coach’s Award

“Our senior who will truly be missed. She shows leadership, a wonderful attitude, drive, and improvement.”

Also superlative awards, voted on by the squad members, were given at the banquet and included Malia Moore as Hardest Worker; Ireland Moore as Best Dressed; Brett Barger as Most Likely to Coach and Best Facials; Shalea Bishop as MVP, Best Tumbler, and Best Flyer; Taylor Wages as Best Attitude; Zoe Arena as Best Jumps; and Cassidy Whitlock as Best Backspot.

The 2015-2016 competition squad was a group of 13 wonderful athletes who never gave up, said the coach. The squad advanced to state competition in November 2015 placing ninth of 16 teams.
