Ross Hays Seeks Election as Commissioner

ROSS HAYS

J. Ross Hays has announced he has filed his Declaration of Intent to seek the District 3 seat of the Jasper County Commission. Mr. Hays will be seeking the position as an Independent.

“The main goals of my office would be to shrink our budget and to focus on a more open government. I believe that the office belongs to the individuals who make up the electorate and that at the end of the day they are the boss,” said Mr. Hays.

“As for challenges facing the actual election, there is always the possibility of facing an incumbent. That is never an easy thing to overcome and I do not want people to believe I am running “against” anyone. I simply have different ideas about how a government should be run and would like an opportunity to voice those ideas and make attempts at changing our current system.

“I also expect people to question my experience due to my age. I have been told by some people that one who is as young as myself should wait, meet more people, and gather more political contacts. I believe that my lack of political contacts will be one of my assets: with almost no political connections, I will not have any preconceived notions of how a government should be run. I will be a commissioner whose decisions can be molded to express the will of the people,” said Mr. Hays.

“The first challenge I will overcome is gathering the necessary signatures to run as an Independent. In order to qualify as an Independent, I will be required to obtain signatures of no less that 85 registered voters in District 3. Those signatures will then have to be verified by the Probate Court. I will be knocking on doors very soon to ask for signatures.

“In the meantime, if anyone would like to contact me they can reach me at haysforcommission@gmail.com anytime or they can call me at 706.319.8410 and I will respond as quickly as I am able.”
