Diamond ‘Canes Post Region Win

The Monticello Hurricanes varsity squad got its first region win Friday with a 15-3 victory over Northeast Macon after four and a half innings.

The win came after being defeated by Social Circle on the road March 2, 8-0 in what head coach Chris Jenkins described as “not the kind of start we were looking for.” He also said his team knew there were going to be some growing pains at the beginning of the season after losing several key seniors last season.

“We just need to keep working hard at practice and learn from our mistakes,” the coach explained. “That way everything is ironed out by the time region rolls around. We’ll be fine.”

The squad was scheduled to host Upson Lee this week, and will host Oglethorpe and Putnam today, March 10 and tomorrow, March 11, respectively. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. each day at Hurricane Field.
